My new favourite store, TK Maxx Australia, has partnered with London-based Aussie blogger and photographer Candice Lake to share her thoughts on the latest trends for Spring/Summer 2017. You can read her interview and watch her vlog here. I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to create some looks inspired by Candice’s tips for this season.

Candice predicts an 80s revival this season, with lots of bright colours and prints, especially PINK. As you all know, I am a huge fan of pink, so this one was right up my alley. I love this sleeveless denim jacket in the most divine shade of blush pink. The sweet colour is balanced out with distressing and an oversized shape. If I was game enough, I could probably button it up and wear it as a dress.

Gingham is not going anywhere. I love this cute little off-the-shoulder dress, with statement sleeves and a waist-tie. It’s an entire outfit in itself, just throw on some sandals and a straw bag and you’re good to go.

Day-to-night dressing is always a favourite of mine. As I work during the day and often go to events at night, I’m always looking for versatile pieces that can be transformed with a change of shoe and a slick of statement lipstick. This wrap dress is perfect, it’s cute with a denim jacket during the day, and is the perfect evening dress when paired with some strappy heels.

1. What are your favourite trends for this Spring Summer season in Australia?
Spring Summer 17 was an incredibly upbeat season. From the really fun revival of the 1980s (with big frills, big shoulders and basically everything BIG) to the most bright and colourful collections I’ve ever seen – think hot pink, yellow, red, Green and more PINK! There was also an abundance of head to toe floral dresses with quite a few tropical motifs thrown in there for good measure. In summary, my favourite thing about this season is the immense happiness that is evident in all the collections and how unapologetic the collections are for really pushing their colour game.
.
2. What are your wardrobe essentials for trans-seasonal dressing?
A great trench coat and leather trousers. Keep your staples and just change your pump to a boot, add a sweater/ trench during the cooler days and carry through some chic, chunky gold jewellery.
.
3. What are your tips for staying on trend each season without blowing your budget?
Go shopping in your own closet first. Put looks together and then think about what you may be missing or lusting after and then go shopping. People often find that they are habitual shoppers and have multiple versions of the same item in their closet. My weakness is white shirts – I have so many of them I don’t know where to start… Think about what you’re missing and then go from there, that way you’ll stay on trend and under budget.
.
4. What is your favourite way to take an outfit from day to night?
I love to add statement jewellery, a lick of bright lipstick and a fun heel. With just these simple elements (that will fit in any bag for the office) you can transform a conservative office look and head out for a fun night on the town.
.
5. What’s your shopping style? / What type of shopper are you?
I’m a binge shopper. I don’t shop regularly, although when I go in, I REALLY go for it. I don’t go in with a shopping list, I just go with an open mind and wait for things to find me. If I buy pieces that I love, that really speak to me, these tend to be the things I wear/ use time and again. I am not a believer in fast fashion. I think that if you buy pieces that are beautiful quality, with a timeless feel, you will have and love them forever. This, to me, is a clever way to shop.

6. What has been the most unexpected find you’ve purchased at TK Maxx? (or the best bargain)
The best bargain I have found at TK Maxx was a beautiful suit for my husband, for a mere fraction of the RRP. It is the most amazing suit and was such a steal – one of my greatest finds yet. I also found a set of really fun ice-cream bowls whilst we were filming this and I couldn’t stop thinking about them – so I went back into the store the next day and bought the whole set! Luckily they were still there!
