We’re already 3 weeks into spring and I couldn’t be happier about it. I adore summer, daylight savings and warm nights, but I’m not totally ready to give up on winter outfits. We were already into spring when I bought these over-the-knee boots, as I realised too late that I needed a pair in my life. They were such a bargain though that I don’t really mind that I’ll probably only wear them twice before I have to put them away for next winter.

This outfit brings back strong memories of a nearly identical outfit I wore 6 years ago, in 2010. I had just spent 3 weeks in the US with my best friend, and was flying home from LA in some of my holiday purchases, a men’s American Apparel grey jumper that I’d bought oversized to wear as a dress, and a pair of Steve Madden black leather over-the-knee boots. It was so far out of my comfort zone at the time, but I loved it (despite the struggle to get my boots off at security).

That trip was significant for me, it was the first time I’d ever travelled without my husband (then boyfriend), I’d spent my 23rd birthday in New York, cut my long hair short, and splurged on lots of new purchases. Coming off the plane to meet my boyfriend after 3 weeks apart in my very unlike-me outfit and my new shorter hair, I felt like a new person.

So as soon as I saw this Lovers & Friends sweater dress at Revolve, I knew I had to get it, and that I would try to recreate that outfit that 23 year old me had loved so much.
